Some sisters of the province had an ardent desire to lead Ashram life in solitude. Hence Sr.Lesieux Mary, the Provincial Superior, searched for a lonely place and Vadattupara was found apt for this purpose. In a very small hut, it was decided to start a convent where in the sisters could spend their time in prayer and work. Under the patronage of St.Francis this convent was called Alvernia. The house was blessed by Fr.George Padinjarayil on 1st February 1992. Sr.Sushama was the superior. Mother Aloshia and Sr.Emeedia were the other members who led a very simple, hard working, Ashram life. But as these early members left the house for different reasons, the house was converted as an ordinary house of the province.
